Thinking of relocating to the North Carolina

well. Year after year the schools in Ashe
County NC perform well by state and national
standards. The student/teacher ratio is
very competitive with an average of 13-16
students per teacher, which is above average by
the national standard. Total student
enrollment for the 2005-2006 year was
approximately 3,200. Also, Ashe County
boasts one of the highest numbers of National
Board Certified Teachers in the state with 38 or
15%.
 There are three elementary schools, one middle
school and one high school in the Ashe County
school system. The high school was built
recently and is a state of the art facility
boasting all of the amenities of a school in a
larger area. In addition to the 5 other
schools, Ashe County also has an alternative
high school for students who have had behavioral
problems in the past. Here students are
given more attention and remediation if needed
and life skills are also emphasized.
Just as the neighborhoods and community is
friendly, the schools are welcoming of new
students and help each student and their
families feel at home after moving.
