New River North Carolina - New River Zoo

the new river
The New River North Carolina is not only one of the oldest rivers in the world, itís an excellent river for NC Fly Fishing, whitewater rafting and tubing, and the perfect place to spend a relaxing day in the High Country. The New River and West Jefferson NC received their names from Peter Jefferson, father of Thomas Jefferson, when he visited and surveyed the area in 1749. For spectacular wildflowers, bird watching and trout fishing, the New River is a centerpiece of Blue Ridge Mountain beauty and an alluring amenity. For more than 100 miles, the New Rivers flows north, a characteristic that only a handful of rivers in the world possess, out of North Carolina and into Virginia. The New Riverís northerly flow points to its antiquity. Scientists estimate that the New River was here before the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Though most of the New River North Carolina is inaccessible by road or trail, the designated scenic area of the New River is 26.5 miles long and runs directly through Regency Properties country! Located just outside of West Jefferson NC, the home of Regency Properties, the New River State Park is the best way to take in the picturesque beauty of the New River. Offering convenient spots for camping, canoeing, picnicking and fishing, the New River State Park is comprised of over 2,200 acres. The New River serenely flows through the park, graciously accenting the pastoral farmlands and meadows along its banks. Take in the charming roads, old-fashioned towns and country stores that dot the New River.

Also located in Ashe County is the New River Zoo. The New River Zoo, NC features over 60 species of animals, including Grey Wolves, Spotted Leopards, Siberian Chipmunks, Pig-tailed Macaques, Fennec Foxes and a host of other animals. Take the family for an educational and exciting experience set within the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
